Happy New Year!

My Great Gamma was Swedish. VERY Swedish. She moved to the U.S. when she was 30 with her children after my great grandpa had died in an accident. I was young when she passed away but I remember these cookies. My grandma, her youngest daughter, continued to make them just as Great Gamma did, and now my mom has finally started making them on a regular basis.

Lobster Pie
November 29, 2005, 6:23 pm
I love seafood. My dream is to live in a coastal town and exist on nothing but fresh seafood. I love it all: clams, oysters, shrimp, lobster, fish of all kinds. This recipe brings together two of my favorite things - pot pie and of course, seafood. It's a variation of a recipe originally from Emeril but I tried it as he made it and frankly, it wasn't to my liking.

Shrimp in Coconut Sauce
November 27, 2005, 2:37 pm
I'm making this tomorrow night, it's a recipe I've made a couple of times and it always turns out well. My best friend from college is going to be in town and she and I used to haunt this Thai restaurant that served something close to this. I've been trying for years to duplicate that dish but there is still something missing. But I think she'll be impressed by how close this is to our old fave.

Today's Lunch - Using up my turkey care package
November 27, 2005, 9:33 am
Mom sent home lots of turkey with me on Thursday. I can only do 1 turkey sandwich before I'm rather tired of it since I'm just not a sandwich type girl. I have, however, been craving a little pasta. So for lunch (and I'll have leftovers) I'm making a tetrazzini with leftover turkey. I'm going out with friends this evening so I want something to hold me until our late dinner reservations. This recipe specifies chicken, but of course, turkey should work just fine. It's in the oven now...

Breakfast Indulgence
November 27, 2005, 9:21 am
I don't like heavy breakfasts usually -- I'm more of a fruit or yogurt type of breakfast eater. But when I want something warm and filling, this is one of my favorites. When I say it is my breakfast indulgence what probably comes to mind is some syrupy sweet mess of carbohydrates. For me, true indulgence is savory and full of complementary flavors. And if you add simplicity into that mix - it's even better!

That's right, I finally did it...
November 26, 2005, 2:44 pm
After lurking on everyone else's blog I finally succumbed to the pressure and signed up for my own blog. I am sure I will still spend more time reading what everyone else is cooking than writing about my own cooking adventures.
